tropics – ‘black hole surf’

January 6, 2012

For a man living in a not-so palm tree place, the one-man nautical behind Tropics manages a sound as light as a Rheingold Lager and as dense as a Guinness Black; pouring up an equator-based, rhythmic black and tan. The man in question, Britain’s Chris Ward, has a handful of unreleased material up on Bandcamp for your viewing pleasure. With an added plus, the 10-tracks are both new and old, allowing us to revisit distant memories and experience some new year strange. Unsure of which ‘Black Hole Surf’ is, it’s better to cast away assumptions and let the muffled bassline guide your day through the lush melody. Stream the entire release through the link below.
